History of the West Hamlin Volunteer Fire Department
|
The West Hamlin Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1966. The first Chief, Clifford Porter, had a desire to provide a service for the community searched for a way and means to achieve that. The department consisted of local community members and business owners. This group of people successfully began the quest that has brought the fire department to where it is today. From a used fire truck, to the first new truck purchased in 1966 from Riverside Dodge in West Hamlin and built by Allegeny Fire Equipment, this provided much needed fire protection to the community. The fire trucks were housed at the West Hamlin town hall building until our present station was built in 1991.
We currently house the following apparatus at station one:
- 1986 E-1 Ford/Engine 551 1000 gal tank/1250 pump

- 2001 E-1 Freightliner/Rescue 582 18' Walk in Rescue
