West Hamlin Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects an area of 40 square miles with approximately five-thousand residents. We operate out of 2 station(s) that protects a combination of commercial-residental and rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are all volunteers. West Hamlin VFD currently has an ISO rating of 6/9.
West Hamlin Volunteer Fire Department's most recent apparatus purchase is a 2006 Rosenbauer/Spartan custom fire pumper, purchased through a grant from the US Department of Homeland Security at a cost of approximately $260,000. The apparatus is due for delivery in August 2006 and will feature a six-place custom cab, 350 hp diesel engine, 1000 gallon water tank, 1500 gallon-per-minute pump, 50 gallon foam concentrate tank and many other innovations to better serve our communities.
As the community has grown, The Fire Department has grown with it, expanding its equipment and services to meet the needs of the residents whom it protects. As the facilities and equipment have grown, so has the training of the members. Every member is now required to have Firefighter Level 1, Firefighter Level 2, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations, First Aid, CPR, Auto Extrication, Emergency Vehicle Operations, and much more. Officers are required to meet Fire Officer 1 training requirements. Most of our members have taken additional advanced courses in firefighting and rescue operations. Other members have been certified as First Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians or Paramedics.
This department made a strong commitment to improve the services provided, by extensive training and up to date equipment. Extending our reach by adding a sub-station in Branchland.
Since 1964 the ONLY focus of the members has been the protection of Life and property of the residents of the community. That has not changed; that will not change. WHEN YOU NEED US, WE'LL BE THERE.
